About the project

A heat pump extracts heat from air, ground or water and transfers it into your home — for 1 kW of electricity in, you get 3-4 kW of heat out. The reason this is a hub and not a single category is that installation needs at least two trades: a heating installer to connect the pump to your system, and an electrician to run a new circuit and breakers. Relying on one person who "does both" usually ends with the electrical side half-done — the pump runs, but inefficiently.

Three types exist: air-to-water (most common, cheapest, good enough for most climates), ground-to-water (more expensive, needs sondes drilled, but more stable in winter), and water-to-water (most efficient, but needs groundwater access). For an average home, air-to-water is the sensible pick.

The reasons for installing are concrete: heating bills drop 40-60% compared to electric or oil heat, no more chimney or carbon monoxide, and government and regional subsidies of 30-50% of cost are common. The system lasts 15-20 years with minimal service.

Through Poslici you pick the heating installer and electrician separately, and verify whether they've worked with heat pumps before — it's a specialized job and not everyone has done it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a complete system cost?
An air-to-water heat pump for a 100 m² home costs 4.000-7.500 € installed, depending on manufacturer and capacity. A ground-to-water system runs 9.000-15.000 € due to sonde drilling. Factor in a domestic hot water tank (750-1.500 €) and possibly radiators or underfloor heating if you don't have them.
Can I keep my existing radiators or underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating is ideal for a heat pump because it runs at lower water temperatures (35-40°C). Classic radiators run at 60-70°C, which forces the pump to consume more electricity. They can be kept, but efficiency drops — alternatively, larger radiators that heat at lower temperatures can be installed. The installer will calculate what makes sense in your case.
How much electricity does it use?
For a 100 m² home, average annual consumption is 4.000-6.000 kWh for heating and hot water, which is 600-900 € per year at current electricity rates. Compared to oil or electric heating, savings are 50-70%. The cost depends most on house insulation — an uninsulated house consumes twice as much.
Does it work in winter at -15°C and below?
Modern air-to-water pumps run down to -20°C, but efficiency drops on extremely cold days — instead of 4 kW per 1 kW of electricity, you get 2 kW. That's why quality pumps include a backup electric heater for the few coldest days each year. In milder coastal climates the system runs essentially without issue.
How long does installation take?
Air-to-water pump installation alone takes 2-4 days if radiators or underfloor heating are already in place. If the entire heating system is being replaced, count on a week to ten days. Ground-to-water systems take longer due to drilling — 2-3 weeks total. The best time to install is spring or early autumn, not mid-heating season.
